Since I started Modern Nurse, I've received more emails than I can count asking questions about scrubs. Well, I'm hear to say that I've heard your call, and I've got an answer.
Majority of my most engaged (and wonderful!) readers are either nurse practitioners or nurse practitioner students. The question's I've received fall into three main categories:
They sent me a few samples, and I put them to the test in a variety of settings. Let's just say, I am giddy with excitement! I finally found a style I like and a brand I trust! The scrub jacket included in the EON Collection is the first flattering scrub jacket I've ever worn. Included below is more information about the company, the EON Collection, and my thoughts about the products.

The Maevn EON Collection
Maevn’s EON Collection is a scrub separates and jacket line made with a blend of CoolMax Everyday Fabric. CoolMax Everyday Fabric is designed to keep professionals cool and dry for comfort and performance. Fabric benefits include:
When purchasing clothes online, I inevitably worry about picking the right size. I included the size chart below for your reference. As an additional data point, I ordered XS tops and S bottoms (regular inseam), and my measurements are 35 chest, 25 waist, 36 hip, and I'm 5' 4" and 125 lbs. The XS tops and S bottoms fit just right. The pants were the right length for me.
The EON Collection primarily comes in wine, royal blue, true navy, lavender, pewter, and black. I received samples in true navy, black, and wine. The colors are bold, bright, and haven't faded at all after two washes. I am particularly fond of wine (deep magenta-red), because it is unique and somewhat expressive. It pairs well with black. Other colors include: cool blue, teal blue, Caribbean blue, hunter green, red, and white.
My Favorite: Mesh Panel Jacket
The Mesh Panel Jacket was by far my favorite piece of the EON Collection line! I ordered it in XS and the color wine (shown in picture), and I want to order another in true navy now! I love, love, love this jacket, and if you only pick one thing from the EON collection, pick this!
At work, I paired this jacket with the black Mesh Panel Pant. It was incredibly comfortable: loose around my upper arms with soft stretchy material that didn't itch my skin. It was also extremely practical: large front pockets and half rib-trim cuffs so I could easily pull up my sleeves.
Aside the comfort and practicality, the jacket looked really sleek. I got two compliments (from strangers) while at work. Later in the week, I paired the jacket with black skinny jeans and boots and another stranger (outside of the healthcare industry) came up to me and asked where I got it! When I told her it was a scrub jacket she was so surprised!
Be aware that the jacket is narrow. You can see on the model below that the jacket fits snuggly across her non-hips, so you can imagine it was tight on my 36" hips. I was still able to zip up the XS, but it was tight enough that I left it unzipped most of the day. I will say, because the jacket is so narrow it was very flattering and gave the illusion that I was tall and slim, which I liked!
Other Maevn Products
Maevn Uniforms has lots of other collections besides the EON Collection:
I also liked the look of the PrimaFlex Collection. The inside of the tops are printed so that when you roll up the sleeves, you get a hint of a pattern. I like this unique look because you can add a splash of color without wearing a full patterned shirt. Purchase on Amazon.
Overall, I am super excited about Maevn Uniforms. They clearly demonstrate an interest in both the nurse practitioner market and the creation of professional, comfortable, and trendy collections. I was impressed with the entire EON Collection especially the Mesh Panel Jacket, which is by far the most flattering scrub jacket I have ever worn!

Over the last few days, I have received a bunch of emails with questions about the Surface Pen and its ability to take notes in school. In response, I decided to put this thing to the ultimate test.
I dug out my old, handwritten grad school notes and attempted to copy them using my Surface Pro 3 (SP3) (i5/128GB), Surface Pen, and the where-have-you-been-all-my-life program Drawboard.
Below you will find scanned copies of those hand-written notes paired with a version I re-created using the Surface Pen. I included the files in case you want to download them and compare them more closely. Enjoy!
So...what do you think? How does the Surface pen hold up again a regular pen? Not too shabby in my opinion. Questions? Email me or comment below.
Sarah Mott, president of Nurse Born Products, contacted me recently requesting that I review her cherry pit heat and cold pad. I, unfortunately, suffer from a C5/C6 cervical neck injury, so this product couldn't have been more appealing to me. I readily agreed.
A few days ago, I received the package in the mail with an extra large (5" by 26") and travel size cherry pit heat and cold pad. I had never heard of using cherry pits in this way before. For the past 4 years, I have been using the Sunbeam heating pad multiple times a day to manage my neck and upper back pain.
The very first thing I noticed upon opening the package was the strong but pleasant smell of cherry pie. I am not kidding! This pad smells exactly like a warm cherry pie. I absolutely loved the scent.
Once I got over the delicious smell (and wondering if I could convince my mom to bake a cherry pie over Christmas), I saw that Sarah had tied the pads up in pretty ribbon and included a hand-made tag that tells the history of the healing properties of cherry pits. I really appreciate these festive details. It makes the product so much more personal.
I have been using this product for the past few days and have absolutely ZERO complaints. I am actually sitting here right now with the extra large pad slung over my shoulder.
I put the large pad in the microwave for 3.5 minutes. It gets very amazingly hot: hotter than my electric Sunbeam heating pad. When you take it out of the microwave it smells strongly of cherry pie and feels slightly damp (not damp enough to get your clothes wet in any way).
For me, the pad stays hot enough for about 10-15 minutes before I need to re-microwave it. Having used only electric heating pads in the past, I like how I can just pop it back in the microwave to reheat it, rather than wait for my electric heating pad to cool down and then heat back up again.
The other night I also stuck the extra large pad in the freezer for about 3 hours. I then draped it across my knees after i finished working out. It worked well as a cold pack too, but it wasn't quite as cold as the frozen vegetables I normally use.
Besides the super delicious smell, another unique thing about the cherry pit pad is the shape. It is 5 by 26 inches, which makes it a great shape for reaching hard-to-get-to muscles. I suffer from terrible radicular pain in my upper left back, left shoulder, and down my left arm. I was able to position this product in all different ways to reach my pain. It worked great!
One thing I always worry about when purchasing a heat pack is will this get hot enough for me? The cherry pit pad will absolutely get hot enough for you. Last night I heated mine up for 3.5 minutes, draped it across my shoulder and down my arm, and fell asleep within minutes. And, BONUS, I didn't have to neurotically worry about a fire from my electric heating pad.
All in all, I think this is a great product. If you need a heat or cold pack, this might be something to try, especially if you like the smell of fresh cherry pie.
So, in conclusion, if you like the smell of cherry pie and you have some hard to reach muscle pain, this might be the perfect product for you. And it is made by a fellow nurse; how cool is that?
